Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Most of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we ought to stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that actually can improve your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you fight depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, especially the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for boosting your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and feel happier!

Put together a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a super source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you want to feel better. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.

Grains can be good for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can really bring you down! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help improve your mood also!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
