Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that actually can improve your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Eat some eggs to feel better!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Nuts, along with raising your mood, can be a great source of protein.

If you would like to fight depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling famished can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are aware that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!

So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these hints instead.
