Hello everybody, it’s Louise, welcome to our recipe site. Today, I will show you a way to prepare a special dish, otong(efik okro soup). It is one of my favorites. For mine, I’m gonna make it a little bit tasty. This will be really delicious.

I have written about Okro Soup in the past. (Recipe HERE). My Okro soup is actually a throwback to the Efik Ottong soup, so I am considering renaming it to Ottong Soup. On that post, I stated clearly that the dish was not Ila Asepo and it shouldn't be mixed… Otong soup is a popular delicious traditional Okra soup recipe from the Efik people of Cross river, South Eastern Nigeria. Otong soup is very similar to the Yoruba Okra Soup; Ila Alasepo.

The ingredients needed to make Otong(Efik Okro Soup):
  1. Take 200 g Ugu
  2. Get 200 g Okro
  3. Make ready 100 g Uziza
  4. Prepare 600 g Ponmo
  5. Get 3 pcs Fried Fish
  6. Take Others
  7. Get Palm oil 1cooking spoon
  8. Prepare Ground Crayfish 2cooking Spoon
  9. Prepare Ground pepper
  10. Get Iru(seeded)
  11. Get Cube Seasoning
  12. Take Salt

It is characterised by two main ingredients Okro and Ugwu. Otong soup is nutritious and it is high in iron content. To the Yorubas this is called Ila asepo (with variation). I don't get tired of okro soup be it Ila asepo, otong soup, Ogbono Okro or plain okro.

Steps to make Otong(Efik Okro Soup):
  1. Assemble main ingredients,wash ponmo,season with pepper,seasoning cube and little salt,marinate for 1hr,to bring out the taste
  2. Wash and slice all vegetable,soak iru to make possible sand settle,after marinating, add enough water to boil ponmo,after 3mins,add palm oil,crayfish, iru,seasoning cube,bring to boil,add okro stir,boil for a min,add ugu,stir,boil for a min,taste to adjust with salt,add uziza last,stir,cook for a min,add fried fish,pls don't cover the pot,while cooking…turn off heat,enjoy with favourite morsel!!!

To the Yorubas this is called Ila asepo (with variation). I don't get tired of okro soup be it Ila asepo, otong soup, Ogbono Okro or plain okro. This is another great okro (okra) recipe. The soup has it origin from southern Nigeria but it's definitely a must try for all. Okra (Okro) Soup is a farm fresh soup recipe prepared with green vegetables.
